In the morning, en-route to the airport, my cell phone rang. I saw from the caller I.D. that it was Shamiah.

“Hello.”

“Rosey?” Shamiah asks.

“What’s good?”

“Nuffin! You ai’ight?”

“I’m perfectly fine.”

“Yo. I thought your black ass could handle the truth?”

“I have no idea what the fuck you talkin’ about.”

“Come the fuck on Rosey, you’re a grown ass women, stop acting like some luv-struck adolescent.”

I rolled my eyes, and abruptly hung up. I was not in the mood for her dramatic act.

I knew one thing though. Never will I switch up my mind frame for a nigga ever again. I continued snorting the coke laid out on a $1,000 dollar bill.

Thirty-one minutes later, I arrived at the airport and found out there was going to be another passenger on the leer I booked.

Rosey carefully removed her huge platinum rimmed Bvlgari sunglasses as she descended the air-steps. “No, no, no, no. I made it personally clear that I wanted to fly solo.”

“Can you please settle down? You’re saving yourself money. Please think of it in that regard Ms. Redd.” The thin-lipped, bulimic stewardess says in tow.

I refuse, so she called her supervisor, who says they’ll refund my $75,000 dollars, so I said fuck it and popped back on my sunglasses, and got my black ass on the jet. I wanted off this island, now.

“Hiya doing,” says the middle-aged man with a Colgate smile, as I took a seat across the aisle from him in the leather bucket seat.

“I would like for you not to speak to me.”

“That’s fine with me.” Said the man.

I slipped out of my high-heeled shoes, threw one leg over the other and looked out the window.

Once the jet powered up, and prepared for ascent I decided to break the ice. “I’m Rosey Redd. And you are?” I say, extending my hand towards him, with a close-lip smile on my face.

“Jacob Langston. Lovely to meet you Ms. Redd, and I must say Montego Bay sure is a pretty nice place, but I have to admit I haven’t seen anything as pretty as you since I’ve been here,” he says, an attractive grin plastered on his face.

I rolled my eyes. No this olive skinned old timer wasn’t tryin’ to kick game.

“Now, hold up, you don’t have to give me that look. Look, I haven’t seen the sun for four days now. I’ve been hunkered down with meeting after meeting, and now I’m finished. So did you come to the island alone?” Jacob asks closing the book he was reading, then removes his reading glasses, and polishes them on the front of his shirt.

I looked into his eyes as if he was crazy.

“OK! OK! You don’t have to answer that. I know you don’t know me from a hole in the wall, and here I am all up in the Kool-Aid and don’t know the flavor.” Says Jacob, sounding like a brother.

I laughed out loud and chit-chatted all through the flight with the college-educated, widowed, father of two grown children, and long distance runner
